Wednesday

It's been very cold the past few days and nights.

This was the lake yesterday ... note there is no snow :-)

Another view... (click to enlarge).

It's been lovely with no snow.  Too bad about all the people east of here... actually... ha ha ha.  Get out and SHOVEL.

I have a new bird feeder this year... it is open in the middle and has round holes on one side and square holes on the other side.  There are 5 chickadees in this photo... they love flying into the middle of it and can hide from the hawks. The squirrels love it too so I have to fill it every few days.  Costco has inexpensive sunflower seeds... big bags... in case anyone cares.

I hear the Vaginal Monologues and dinner last Saturday had around 40 people attending... and it was a HIT! (as usual).  Excellent!!

This is my cat going for a walk in the snow.

She is standing on my boots... she likes to go out but doesn't actually like the 'getting her feet wet' part.   Hey, there is nothing much to post in the blog so ... you get what you get :-)

The roads are still a solid sheet of ice.  Not many people are going for walks these days... too slippery.

The last I heard ... a few days ago... the hot tub was still not working.  Seems the new heater rotted from the inside out and ... as it was under warranty... a new one was ordered.  I have NO idea when the tub will be running so... phone the office and ask.  905-473-6060.  It could be running now... or not.  How vague is that!!

I was out and about and tried on a few ice skates today... hmmm... it was suggested I get a helmut too... ha ha ha.  None of them fit so... I am still without skates.  Not a problem, it looks wayyyy too slippery out there anyways.

The ice cracks a lot.  I'm sure it is safe to skate on now but... check to see if it is at least 8 inches thick.  Eh?  You don't have an ice auger on you?  Well... neither do I :-D

As always, I own the copyright for the following cartoon so don't steal it.  Unless you want to use it, then email me and ask.

The end.

Tuesday

Cold today... around 6F.

Thanks Judy for the cardinal!

It doesn't look real, does it...  what a pretty bird. Fat and cold.

So... a bunch of us watched some of the Vagina Monologue rehearsal... while playing darts last Saturday.  I'm sure it was a tad noisy for them but Royce said he didn't even notice the noise.  I'm sure they will be playing next Saturday afternoon too.  If you want to see the whole Vagina Monologues...

I'm not sure how full they are ... but I'll let you know.  I just sent an email to bop (above).  Okay, got the answer, there are only about 10 tickets left... if you want to go... email the above address!!

Anyways.... it is very icy here and I mean... you can't walk without crampons (metal things you put on your boots so you won't slip).  We have crampons so we were able to walk around the park today.  You can get them at Princess Auto and they slip over the bottom of your boots.  Don't walk on your deck though as they poke holes in your deck and that would be bad.

Ice everywhere... and no salt is used on the roads so drive slowly.  There is salt on some of the walkways and the path to the front door.

No snow yet.  Ha ha ha.  I miss using my snowblower... NOT!!

Here are two pictures of the lake during the thaw last week (thanks Judy!)

Ya don't want to skate on that... there is a bit of water in those skate tracks.

The lake is now covered by a layer of thin snow.  Not sure how thick the ice is but... you could hear the pressure cracks snapping away today.

Not much going on...

Helloooooooooooooo to all the people who are in Florida, Texas and Jamaica!!  (waving)

Wednesday

Hola peeps!

Not much is going on here... lots of people are out and about walking around the park these days...

It has been very very cold.

Just checked my inbox and I have PICTURES.  Thanks Judy! She said:  "What a lovely day :) went skating for the first time in YEARS! In my new (to me) skates :) Ice is about 8 inches thick according to Kim."

This is a Judy selfie.

On her way down?

Being helped.

Kim out skating.

The sky and lack of snow... looking at Glen Echo Fields.

The Outback and ... no snow.

The propane truck has been here a few times this past week.  Apparently a few people were very low due to the cold conditions.  Everyone is topped up now.

There is still very little snow.  I've shovelled a few times in the past few weeks but I usually use a broom.

The lake has a nice rink on it.  People have been skating.  According to Environment Canada, or the people who know these things, there should be 36 centimeters (6 inches) of ice in order to support a human.  48 centimeters (8 inches) in order to support a snowmobile.  The 'grey' ice is the problem.  If the ice is black or blue... no problem. Well, if it is blue it may be an iceberg and that would be a problem :-)

A few weeks ago a bunch of people shovelled off skating lanes on the ice.  Then it warmed up and the lake turned to water.  Now there is only a rink.  A nice hockey game would be entertaining.  I have 4 pucks and ... a few sticks.  Of course, I have to FIND the sticks first...

Cold, cold and COLD

Well... it is finally cold here.  Temperature is 18F.  In case you forget, 32F is freezing.

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

There's about 2 inches of snow on the ground.  Not much, too little to plow.

The past week has been weird.  A lot of people shovelled the snow off the lake... then we got a thaw and the lake was covered in water.  Then it snowed so who knows what condition the ice is in...

It has only been cold for a few days now so it is probably not safe to go on the ice yet.  Give it a few days.  Besides, I don't have skates yet :-)

Here's the lake... and my hungry birds.

There was a great audience last Saturday at the "Post-its" rehearsal... plus the food afterwards.

Pauline asked me to post this... if anyone wants me to post anything, just email me. I need stuff to post.  I need pictures too.

Can you say... party?  :-)
