Thursday

Well... this is the last week of summer.  Okay, okay, maybe not but... this has been one crappy summer.  Maybe September and October will be warmer?  They better be... it hasn't stopped raining or being cold at night and I still have to paint my deck and railings.  HA HA HA.  Fat chance now, eh?

There appears to be a lot of controversy about noise vs no noise ... in the park.  Some people like to have impromptu bands playing in Beckett during the day ... some people like to sit and listen to the birds.  If you think the music is loud... you should come up to Helios and sit beside the aerator for an hour :-)   I know the aerator is necessary... just sayin' that it is loud. But I digress...

I'm not sure what 'new' people or 'visitors' are told when they come into the park.

If they are told... this is a nice 'quiet' place to relax... then ditch the band.

If they are told, this is a nice place where you can meet a lot of friendly social people... then keep the band. 

So... check with the office (grin).

I've been coming here for 17 years ... a lot has happened over the years... we used to be a lot louder (grin). There were, however, a lot fewer people here.

The weather today was lovely... in the 80's!!!   No rain (okay for 5 minutes but that is not much).

Yesterday it was 92F... and humid... but GREAT!!

It's 53F at the moment... cold cold.  Well, I think that is cold.

Someone asked me if the Outback was usable again.  I don't have a clue as I forgot to check today. 

The potholes are better!!  Not sure why but they are no longer a '1'.  I would put them at '3'.   The roads are like concrete so no amount of Kubota-ing will help it.    I think paving them would be the best thing... heh heh.  Although the road to the back floods most years so that wouldn't work either.  Oh well... drive slowly.

Today's Hump Day at Larry and Marg's had around 28 people!!   Yummy food, always a variety. I ate too much cake ... Mmmmm.

These tiny mosquitoes are really beginning to piss me off.  I mean REALLY piss me off. You can't even go for a walk at dusk anymore... they swarm you!!

If you choose to participate you may: 1) Read or perform a poem, 2) Sing or play a song, 3) You can read anything you wish that means something to you, 4) Or you can ask someone else to read for you, 5) A variety of poetry books to choose from will be available if the moment strikes. Readings are 3 minutes maximum.  (I don't know where this is being held... maybe the front lawn? )

On a final note...

Steve H.  - a member here wrote this about the park...

There are many many parks in this province that have radio free zones. The sites have space and brush between them to help create the illusion of solitude. Children, teens and pets are expected to remain with parents and to not walk on another's site unless invited. Group campfires are strongly discouraged and are patrolled. Privacy is held as a virtue and it is customary to give a stranger no more than a polite nod. Friendliness is considered annoying and each campsite is expected to be self sufficient. Alcohol is often banned on long weekends. Park activities are minimal and attended by few. It's a place to "get away from it all".


Bare Oaks, on the other hand, is a community. Sites are tight in an effort to make room for just a few more. The park is shared and there is help when you need it. Strangers are recruited, kids and pets are protected and known by name. Families are defined by affection, yet relatives can be represented by three generations, including in-laws! Friendliness is held as a virtue and those that would cause harm are banished. Talent and creativity abound, activities are the best anywhere. No one should need to feel alone. Society can be cruel, and that's why I love to go to Bare Oaks to "get away from it all". I love this park!

Sunday

Well... this weekend was great!!

The Bare Oaks Band played on Saturday.

Horseshoe tournament was on Saturday... with about 8 teams.  I watched it for a while and everyone had fun!

It was warm, but not hot yesterday and cloudy.  Not too many people were here.  Maybe it is the 'back to school' thing... or maybe it is the WEATHER.  Which really sucks. It rained for about 5 minutes a few times yesterday.

The mosquitoes are out in full force.

Here is an update from Judy about the music event at the Outback last Sunday: "Ron plays a mean xylophone-like instrument as well and acoustic guitar. Joining him were his sister, Christine, who sang a few melodies and dad, Bruce, on trumpet and (I think) English horn... There were between 15 and 20 of us in the audience for the short interlude."

Last night was the last show of the BOP one scene performance. It has been playing to a sold out crowd for three Saturdays in a row.

Lots of wasps in the park this year.  This is the remainder of one nest.  Judy said: "This is what's left of the nest re-build from under our deck. JL had sprayed a couple of weeks ago, I thought I'd gotten rid of everything but more of the little buggers used the same place! He sprayed again on Sunday and this is what I removed on Monday."
 




I have one of those paper nests that I hang around my place.  I haven't seen a nest this year.


This is the zucchini - a couple of the 11 or 12 from JL's garden.

 
I got the small one, which was not small!!  It was delicious!!

We had a visitor this week... I'm surprised he didn't puncture the raft. (Click image to enlarge.)  I have closer images but they are all blurry (shocked look).




He better not stick around, I like the frogs.

Both my tomato plants and JL's have blight on them this year... they are all dead now  :-(  Ah well...

This Wednesday's Hump Day Happy Hour is at Site #229 - Larry and Marg from 4:00PM - 6:00PM.  Bring a snack, a chair and your lovely selves.

I did a survey of many people yesterday.  They all told me that the potholes are a '1' out of '10'.

The temperature is 84F at the moment and SUNNY!!  Get out and get a tan... only one week of summer left... HA HA HA.

Okay maybe not... it is supposed to be cold in September and HOT in October.  Right, raise your hand if you believe that.

The leaves are changing here.  Ho hum.

Anyone interested in taking a class on Urban Pole Walking on Tuesdays from Sept 16 - Nov 04 at 6:30pm to 7:30pm at the Rogers Reservoir (Green Lane and south of Leslie)?  I *think* it is $80. for the course but I'll check.

Sunday

This is October... right?

Two nights ago it went down to 48F ... last night 52F... brrrrr.

The One Act plays played to TWO SOLD OUT audiences last night. 

It rained most of yesterday... blah...

Today so far... no rain and the thermometer says it is 75F BUT... there is also no sun.  Well, not that I've seen.  Wait... wait... I SEE THE SUN!! 

Volleyball weekend this weekend... I think it was a good weekend for them despite the fact that it rained a lot of yesterday.  Not as many people here as usual based on the other volleyball weekends. 

This week on the 20th... Hump Day Happy Hour is at Joy and Joel's place.  I don't know the site number but I *think* it is across from Royce. They are hosting "Ugly shoe day" so pull out those ugly shoes from the back of your closet!   Wednesday at 4pm. Bring a snack and a chair.

Wii bowling is EVERY Tuesday from 7pm (or 8pm) in the basement room.

Do you know that we now have a Bare Oaks Band?  They will be playing next Saturday for their first time (the 23rd) from 1pm to 5pm... somewhere in the park, I *think* it will be outside on the front lawn.  The band consists of members Robin, Kevin, Ron and Joanne.  Cool.

Potholes are very very bad.  I may have to give them a '2'... on a scale of 1 (bad) to 10 (good).

It rained off and on today with a cold wind blowing.  I went out nude for about 15 seconds... and then got a sweater... and then got pants...

    I was out of the park today and missed Hump Day Happy Hour - hosted by Wendy and Kim at the Outback.  :-(

    However I heard that 25 people attended which is excellent for a rainy cold day. 

    As I posted in the last blog: This coming Saturday, August the 16th, there will be TWO performances of the Bare Oaks Players One Act Plays. See the last blog for details.
    This morning at 9am... there were 8 tickets available for the 8pm show on Saturday (cancellation and switch to 6pm) and 30 for the 6pm show.  Sold out for August 23rd.

    I just got an update from Marc: "There are 6 tickets available for the 8 pm show and 20 for the 6 pm show. They're going faster than towels at a nudist restaurant."

    If you want a ticket, email bop@bareoaks.ca.  The volleyballers will probably order a lot of tickets on Friday when they arrive so DO NOT put it off.  It is an excellent show.

    Do you know that there are two pizza places that deliver to the park?  You have to wait for them at the gate but it sure beats frozen pizza ... or cooking after a long day of sunning :-)

    Monday...

    Well... again... it was a lovely day.  Sun was shining, no rain, not too humid... LOVELY.

    No photos today as I'm not sure where I put my camera :-)

    This coming Saturday, August the 16th, there will be TWO performances of the Bare Oaks Players One Act Plays.

    The first one will be at 6pm. There is NO liquor license for this one as their current license won't cover that time.

    The second one will be at 8pm. There is a liquor license for this one and it is sold out (I think :-D). The first performance at 6pm has 40 seats available. I talked to Suzy and Marc around 4pm today and they gave me this information.

    If you want ...a ticket for the FIRST performance you must pay first to get your ticket. You can email bop@bareoaks.ca to reserve a ticket. This performance gives the volleyballers a chance to see the plays. That does not mean it is only for the volleyballers. If you want a ticket, email that address as it is Suzy and Marc's address.

    They also said if you want to change from the 8pm performance to the 6pm performance, you can do that. Sort that out with them.

    If there are any changes, I'll post them here.

    I went to the first performance and it was FANTASTIC.  I suggest you go as you will have a good time.  It is a cozy atmosphere with little bistro tables and comfy chairs.  Plus wine... they had wine :-D

    Judy is doing Aquafit and I heard it is very popular.  For the next 2 weekends Aquafit will be on SUNDAYS at 2:30 PM. Well, I thought it was on Tuesdays too but I can't find it on either calendar so I'll wait until Judy tells me :-)

    The BARE OAKS SOCIAL COMMITTEE has purchased 4 pop up gazebo tents 10 x10 that can be used by members for both private events and park events.  (They are similar in style to the large ones that we have). They can be signed out through Stony or any other BOSC member and are being kept in the Bare Oaks Social Committee Shed near the office. If they are borrowed to take out of the park then a deposit is required.

    The THINK PINK COMMITTEE has also purchased one pop up gazebo tent 10 x10 that can be borrowed by speaking with Royce at site #237

    These tents have been purchased for your use, please just ask!

    Oooo, beer tent anyone? ;-)  Okay okay... maybe not.

    This Wednesday Hump Day Happy Hour will be hosted by Wendy and Kim at the Outback.  Bring a snack, a chair, a drink. Starts at 4pm and we can go inside if it rains...

    It's supposed to rain tonight... we'll see...

    Seems some people wish to use the Outback to play pool, watch TV, play games.  There used to be a kids corner for the kids to play and it is gone.  I think all the furniture has been removed and put in the Quonset hut.  So... I'm not sure if they will be putting it back after the performances (Sunday?) so if you want to know... you might have to contact the office. From what I have seen, people spend a lot of time in it during the week.
     

    A lot of the potholes in Helios were filled on Saturday. 

    Volleyball weekend starts on Friday...

    Hot today!!  Yeah!!

    Lots of people are here today, the parking lot is FULL.

    The outside shower is still broken but I hear a part is coming on Monday so you have to use the inside showers in the clubhouse until it is fixed.

    The Bare Oaks Players are doing their final setup for the play tonight!  I'll be there... with 39 other people :-))  There were two tickets available this morning but it is probably sold out by now.

    I still don't have the lot number but it might be 239B. The lot closest to the forest, the next lot EAST of the 4 rental trailers.  When you enter the seasonal area, keep right.

    Thursday

    What a week!  Hot and sunny!!

    The crickets are back!  What a lovely sound.

    This one is a tad fuzzy.  I have wayyyyy too many flowers in my gardens this year. This is a cone flower plant or Echinacea.   The pink one in the background is a sweet pea.  Those are sweet pea pods all around the plants, not beans.



    We got a ton of rain on August 4... and I mean a TON.  (Not to be confused with a 'tonne'. In American English, a ton is a unit of measurement equaling 2,000 pounds. In non-U.S. measurements, a ton equals 2,240 pounds. A tonne is about 2204.6 pounds. There, now you are smarter.)

    Ok, maybe I shouldn't use the word ton... but it was a lot.  People were having mud baths in the seasonal area.  Lots of lawns were flooded. Here is one place. (This photo was stolen (grin) off another site.)



    The Hump Day Happy Hour at Al and Cheryl's had  44 people!  That has to be a record. It was hot and sunny. Lots of food too.

    Next week's HDHH is at the Outback, hosted by Wendy and Kim.  Wednesday, August 13 at 4pm.  Bring a chair (or maybe not as there are a lot of chairs there... )  something to snack on and a beverage.

    The Bare Oaks Players One Act play(s)  is on this Saturday... starts at 8pm at the Outback ... and there will be a LIQUOR LICENSE.  So... bring money if you would like a beer or wine.  Now, I don't know the details but I *think* it will be $5. a drink and there will be at least one intermission.  Suzy was putting 'almost sold out' signs on a few of their flyers so... get your ticket!  It is only $5.

    The potholes are soooo bad, my lawnmower jumped off my golf cart when I weaved my way through the potholes today.  I was not going fast.  I can't go fast or I would have to buy a new golf cart :-)

    So... my pet peeve for the week.  I've been stung by a yellow jacket and a honey bee this week. There are soooo many wasps, honey bees, yellow jackets, bumble bees... and some weird looking black and white wasp.  What is going on??!!  Whilst complaining about my stings... I found out that a LOT of other people have been stung too.  Is it the cold? Do they like cold?  ha ha ha.  Grrrr. 

    There are eight hummingbirds zipping around my front lawn so be careful when you walk by.  I hung up three feeders as they are very hungry.  I think they are this years babies.

    Cold now... 58F... brrrrr.

    Sunday

    Well... so much for painting in July, maybe we will have an August with LESS RAIN.

    It rained most of Friday... and hailed...

    Hump day at the 'girls' (Kim and Missy's place) was attended by 20 people...

    Cheryl and Al are hosting it this week (Wednesday).  Beckett Circle, the trailer on the LEFT as you head towards Strawberry fields and the bridge. I'm not sure of the site number... 206 or 210..   It is between 4pm and 6pm... bring your drinkie, a snack, a chair and your lovely self.

    Final TVM 2015 Auditions

    Please be advised that our final audition for The Vagina Monologues (V Day 2015) will take place on Saturday August 16, 2014 starting at 4:00pm.

    Audition is by appointment only. Contact us at bop@bareoaks.ca to book a time.

    You need to present a short monologue that is not from TVM.
    We will then ask for various readings from last year's TVM script.
    We anticipate your audition to take 15-20 minutes.

    There will be a panel of Bare Oaks Players members present during the auditions and making the final casting decision.  It is worthwhile noting that the directors' vision is to complete the cast with a younger woman, if possible.

    Auditions will be held at Lot 124 Bare Oaks Family Naturist Park.

    The Ribfest and sock hop was last night.  I was away so don't know how many attended the Ribfest but there were only a few people at the sock hop at the Outback at 9pm.

    The Bare Olympics was held yesterday between noon and 3pm.  I watched one of the games and around 50 people played the one game ... they were in teams.  Lots of kids.  It looked like fun and they were having fun.  Kudos to the organizers!!! 

    I don't know who won but I'll post the results when I find out.

    Today is HOT... 90F and a tad humid with a breeze.  A PERFECT summer day.

    Okay, I've been out for a few hours and my thermometer now says 101F.  That's hotter.

    Lots and LOTS of people at the beach today.

    The Bare Oaks Players have their inaugural One Act evening at the Outback on August 9th (plus August 16 and 23) from 8pm - 9:30pm.

    BUY YOUR TICKETS NOW.  There are still tickets available for opening night.  It is $5.00.  They have put a LOT of work into organizing, rehearsing and building sets.  Get out there and support your park.  If it is past your bedtime, take a nap in the afternoon (grin).

    Oh yeah the pothole chart. After consulting MANY people... they gave the potholes a ... 2.

    Mosquitos are still here... along with the beer bugs and the deer flies.  I was bitten by a wasp a few days ago.  I now have a remedy for the sting which I am keeping in my golf cart.  Hah.  The wasps love the hummingbird food, climb into the open holes on the feeder (for the Baltimore Orioles) and drown.  This is beginning to annoy me.
