It has warmed up in the past few days and is hovering on freezing at the moment.
Here is a message from Suzy of the Bare Oaks Players.
Playbill 2014/15 - Discussion and readings.
The price of propane is going up. This is a letter from management:
Bare Oaks Members. January 24, 2014
Please find attached communication from RS Bulk Propane regarding propane supply and pricing.
The changes noted will take effect as of the next fill. Bare Oaks will be monitoring and reviewing the pricing levels and supply levels with RS Bulk on a monthly basis in order to ensure that we are receiving the best possible pricing.
Propane pricing has been steadily increasing since August of 2013, but RS Bulk held to the contract price. This is no longer possible given the current conditions in the market place.
This is just a heads up. To net out the RS Bulk letter (as I'm too lazy to type it all in) ... due to the cold weather, the Sarnia suppliers are raising their prices therefore our price will go up by $0.14 per litre and will now be $0.78. That is about a 20% increase. Now if you are paying $1200. a year for propane, your bill will go up an additional $240... approximately. The math may, or may not, be correct... get out your calculator and do it yourself :-D
In case you wish to visit the park on the weekends, people have been gathering in the basement on Saturday afternoon. To play darts, ping pong, pool... whatever. Now that I have said that... no one will probably show up this Saturday. ha ha.
The rink on the lake looks lonely. It is all shovelled and waiting for people to skate on it.
Rumor has it... due to the deep freeze this winter... we will have fewer mosquitos in the spring. Then someone pointed out that they have mosquitos the size of small birds in Alaska and their weather is cold all the time. We'll just have to wait and see.
Not much is going on here... except for the daily snow shovelling... BLAH.
If you are looking for something to give your other half this Valentines day... here is a Plush Kitten Bouquet ... available at http://www.thinkgeek.com/valentines/ (great store!)
The Bouquet also comes in Unicorns... ;-)

That is a lot better than the last few days (and nights) when it was minus 30.
In case you have an appliance at your place that needs to be repaired in future. Here is my experience. I had NO idea how difficult it would be to get something fixed here.
My gas dryer was no longer producing heat a few weeks ago. I did not do most of this repair job ... P. was in charge of this repair. I am a little tired of 'things going wrong' and washed my hands of this one :-D (We had to replace the kitchen faucet last week too... and on and on and on...)
1. P. phoned the furnace repair guy who usually cleans my furnace ... three times and left messages. He did not call back which makes me think he is probably in Florida or somewhere warm. Good for him ... ptttttttttttttt.
2. Talked to Rick W. (y'all know who that is) who said he couldn't do it as he would probably have a problem getting parts but he said to call Northern Appliances in Keswick. Called them and when they returned the call... they said they didn't do propane appliances.
3. Called RS Propane (our propane provider) in case they had a guy. They did. Phoned the guy who is situated out of Barrie. He said it was too far and they didn't do 'white appliances'. Not sure what that means but I think they only do 'commercial' stuff.
4. Then P. went on the internet and googled. :-D
5. Found 'The Appliance Doctor' in Newmarket/Keswick. http://appliancerepairnewmarket.com/
6. Phoned Daniel Catt (answering service). He called back almost immediately! (shocked look)
7. He said... how about today... (another shocked look). He said he would call again when he was 10 minutes away. P. gave him the model number and P. said he thought it might be the igniter and Dan said he had the parts. (blink)
8. I called the office to let them know that someone was coming in ... with no response.
9. Dan called again in another hour (or so) and said he was 10 minutes out and I called the office again with no response.
10. We walked over to the office and it was closed. P. rode back with him. (Note: bring your fob when you come up here or you might not be able to get into the building.)
11. It took him an hour to dismantle the dryer, test a lot of the parts, fix it and put it back together. It was $80. for the service call (standard cost), $70. for the part (it was a big part) = $150. including tax... PLUS TIP. Hey, with that sort of service how can you not tip someone?
My dryer is fixed... yeah!! If you want any major appliance fixed in your place, call him. He is excellent. He does not do furnaces though. Check his website, the video is funny.
On a final note... THANKS CATHERINE... for letting me use your dryer ... I only used it once as it was wayyyy too cold to lug wet laundry around. I used my flying saucer ... which was GREAT.
Now on to important stuff. No events are on the calendar. Nothing is going on here.
There is an event TOMORROW NIGHT. Go here to check it out: http://gtaskinnydippers.ca/EVENTS.html. It is put on by the GTA Skinnydippers and is at a pool in Newmarket. It says on the page 'Directions. Click here' but there is no link so email this address if you want to RSVP or ask for information email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org
I haven't seen anyone skating on the rink on the lake even though Kim is keeping it shovelled off.
It is a very nice rink. I have hockey sticks and pucks... if anyone cares. Just email me if you want to use them and I'll leave them out for you.
I'm TIRED OF SHOVELLING. This is officially the worst winter for snow (and ice) since I have lived here... for ... 6? or 7? years. Blah.
Here is another way to keep warm... sound asleep on top of the sheep he watches...

I just came in and the snow squeaks.
The birds are hungry... they are lined up on the railing... with a ... watcher. I fed the birds twice today... they are cold, they need food.
If you are really cold... here is a suggestion...
No photos of the park as my photographer is in Florida for a few more days...
I haven't seen anyone on the rink on the lake skating but it is cleared off... thanks to Kim and Wendy!! It's cold... the wind chill might be a factor.
It has snowed a few times this week but only about 4 inches... nothing to worry about. The roads have not been plowed this week but there really isn't that much snow on them.
My place keeps 'cracking'... very loud cracks. All night... I'm tired of it. I'm going through a LOT of propane too.
The power was off today for about 20 minutes... but those of us who are here got a phone call about it. Well, I'm assuming that the others got a call as I got one.
Well... that's it... nothing going on here. :-)
I'll leave you with a planting note for the spring. My spring starts on April 1... YEAH!! 69 days to go!!!
Remember this is VERY important to do...

It snowed last night... about 2 - 3 inches. It is still snowing but only a bit.
The temperature is right on freezing 32F or 0C (heh heh, I can convert that one in my head).
It has been cold the past few days but for the 4 days before that... it was ABOVE freezing. Because of that, a lot of the snow and ice are gone from the trailers and sheds. Not all of it but a lot of it. I'm sure the last layer of ice is still there.
The propane truck was around this past week. A lot of us got an email on January 14 from RS propante (our provider) that said:
I already wear sweaters but I have used a lot less propane this year than in the past years.
The Vagina Monologues undressed rehearsal is on tomorrow night at the Clubhouse. Reservations only. If you want to see it, phone the office and see if they have any tickets left (905 473 6060).
There is nothing else on the Bare Oaks calendar for January or February.
Just to put you in a better mood... as always... my summer begins on March 31. I'm tired of winter by that date.
This was posted last year on March 21:
Photo of the thermometer on my deck yesterday (March 21, 2013):
Ooooo... exciting. Only TWO MORE MONTHS OF WINTER.
The ice went out on the lake on March 13, last year.
Okay, back to the winter crap. Most of us still have about 3+ inches of ICE on our driveways and walkways. Very few places around town have salt so... it will have to stay that way for a while.
(Waving at all the Florida and Texas people)
Let's see... what other exciting things have happened here... thinking... thinking... hmmm...
A guy was seen walking around the park naked a few days ago. Can you say 'hypothermia'? There are not many people here so... what if something had happened? Okay, okay, I'm not his mother and it is none of my business but... just sayin'.
The creeks are down which is surprising due to all the snow melting.
The rink on the lake was shovelled until today. I'm not sure it is safe due to the thaw this week but.. again... do what you want... skate if you want... I'm not skating on it.
Thanks to whoever dropped off my Toronto Star last Sunday.
Time to take down your Christmas decorations... what do you think this is... a trailer park??!! (grin) A LOT of parks have rules about leaving decorations up all year. Anyone out there have a place down south where they have a rule about taking down decorations?
Ho hum... time to shovel.

The following blurb is how I feel about this WINTER... and how a lot of other people feel...
(Thanks Cathy for forwarding it to me)
Diary of a Snow Shoveller
Shoveled snow for the first time in years and felt like a boy again. I did both our driveway and the sidewalks. This afternoon the snowplow came along and covered up the sidewalks and closed in the driveway, so I got to shovel again. What a perfect life!
The sun has melted all our lovely snow. Such a disappointment! My neighbor tells me not to worry - we'll definitely have a white Christmas. No snow on Christmas would be awful! Bob says we'll have so much snow by the end of winter, that I'll never want to see snow again. I don't think that's possible. Bob is such a nice man, I'm glad he's our neighbor.
I tried to find the original writer but the person doesn't exist. This is from snopes.com:
"While the version most commonly in circulation in 2012 lists the first diary entry as

Wear a face mask, and warm clothes if you are venturing out. The windchill will freeze skin in 5 - 10 minutes... or so 'they' say.
Remember if it is too cold for humans, it is WAYYYYY too cold for pets.
Missy was out and about today plowing the roads ... they are now wider and really nice. You can drive to the back and around both circles... at the back. Some of the snowbanks are higher than me.
If anyone sees any papers (for example, the Toronto Star) at the entrance to the Park... PLEASE leave them there. Unless they are your papers. If they are, feel free to take them. If not, then leave them alone. Thanks.
There were 4 people at euchre last Saturday.
The Vagina Monologues V-Day 2014 Undressed Rehearsal is on January 18 from 8pm to 10pm.
Free performance, no donations are required HOWEVER.... you have to make a reservation and they may be booked solid so phone the office and ask - 905 473 6060.
Well... the shed of a friend of mine just collapsed under the snow load. She lives in Pickering. I have removed the snow and ice from my shed and trailer twice. We drove around the back today and didn't seen any problems with any of the sheds THAT WE COULD SEE but some of them have a LOT of snow and ice on them. Just sayin'...
If you want me to look at your place, email me your lot number.
The rink on the lake has NOT been shovelled in a few days. It is wayyy too cold to skate anyways. If YOU want to shovel it, feel free to do so :-) The shovellers are having enough problems shovelling their driveways and roads and trailers.
This winter is getting very tedious. Ho hum.
If you think it is bad for you, think of the dogs ;-)

So that means the Clubhouse is back on... well probably as I didn't call them.
If you want to visit the Park today, bring a shovel... and skates.
I just measured the snow that came down overnight, and is still falling... FIVE INCHES.
Anyone else tired of this winter?
Feed your birds.

We were warned yesterday that the cistern was filling up slowwwwwly... but it seems to have stopped due to a 'blockage'. They are working on the blockage and should know within the next 24 hours what the solution will be, according to the note.
It is below freezing, I hope my pipes survive.
Now... we wait :-D
I find it odd that the hot tub was not closed, quite a few people used it today. The restaurant (Bare Bistro) was closed. I think it is still closed tomorrow, check at the office (905 473 6060).
There were a bunch of people in the Clubhouse basement today, chatting and playing darts.
Wendy and Kim wanted me to post this note: "the rink on the lake (pond) is open and good to go. The ice is thick and smooth to skate on. Since the temp is to be warmer tomorrow, skating, snowshoeing or skiing would be a nice pleasant activity in the Park."
There were a bunch of adults and kids skating on the lake today... it was a LOT warmer than yesterday.
Keep in mind, if you do come up to the Park tomorrow ... you can't shower and you can't flush until the water situation is resolved. Phone the office first.
Turn the lights off in the room to appreciate these... and click to enlarge them.
Hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Years!! :-D

Just a sprinkling of snow the past few days... no shovelling required.
Photo from Judy: "The sun was shining through these trees and glistening through the ice that coats the branches."
Down the Bunny Trail in the seasonal area.
Looks like cross country ski tracks.
Snow shoe and ski tracks.
