Hiatus for a few months

There are no events scheduled for this winter (except Euchre) so the blog is going on hiatus for a few months.

The winter is quiet here and I'm tired of reporting that nothing is happening... so... see you in a while.

I shall return when the activity picks up.

Over the Holidays

Here are a few things to remember over the holidays.  (Please do not repost this to Facebook.)

1. Avoid carrot sticks. Anyone who puts carrots on a holiday buffet table knows absolutely nothing of the Holiday spirit. In fact, if you see carrots, leave immediately. Go next door, where they're serving rum balls.

2. Drink as much eggnog as you can. And quickly. It's rare... You cannot find it any other time of year but now. So drink up! Who cares that it has 10,000 calories in every sip? It's not as if you're going to turn into an eggnog-holic or something. It's a once-a-year treat for goodness' sake! Enjoy it! Have one for me. Have two.

3. If something comes with gravy, take it. That's the whole point of gravy. Gravy does not stand alone. Pour it on. Make a volcano out of your mashed potatoes. Fill it with gravy. Eat the volcano. Repeat once. Repeat twice.

4. As for mashed potatoes, find out if it's made with skim milk or whole milk. If it's skim, pass. Why bother? It's like buying a sports car with an automatic transmission.

5. Do not have a snack before going to a party in an effort to control your eating. Hello?!? The whole point of going to a Holiday party is to eat other people's food for free.

6. Under no circumstances should you exercise between now and New Year's. You can do that in January when you have nothing else to do. This is the time for long naps, which you'll need after circling the buffet table while carrying a 10-pound plate of food and that vat of eggnog.

7. If you come across something really good at a buffet table, like frosted Christmas cookies in the shape and size of Santa, position yourself near them and don't budge. Have as many as you can before becoming the center of attention. They're like a beautiful pair of shoes. If you leave them behind, you're never going to see them again.

8. Same for pies. Apple, Pumpkin, Mincemeat. Have a slice of each. Or if you don't like mincemeat, have two apples and one pumpkin. Always have three (3). When else do you get to have more than one dessert? Labor Day?

9. Did someone mention fruitcake? Granted, it's loaded with the mandatory celebratory calories, so avoid it at all cost. I mean, have some standards.

10. One final tip: If you don't feel terrible when you leave the party or when you get up from the table, you have not been paying attention!! Remedy: Re-read tips, and remember this motto:

"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body; but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate and wine in one hand, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"

Pssst....Life is short. Drink the good wine first!

December 16

Oooo, it's been a long time.  I've been a tad busy but I've got all my shopping done!  What is it that Sheldon says on the Big Bang Theory?  Oh yeah... na na na na na.

Plus there is NO snow here.  It's been raining all day though.

Now here is a place with a lot of snow.  Dave (of Dave and Judy) on his roof shovelling.  HA HA HA.

Mags in the snow.

The beach street in Wasaga Beach (click photo for a larger photo). This is close to where Dave and Judy live...

In a previous blog I thanked an anonymous donor for the shuffleboard rocks.  Well... the Park bought them... plus a sweeper, wax, scoreboard and the rule book (as if we need RULES).

The lake has frozen, thawed, frozen, thawed...

Here is a photo from Judy (thanks!) : "strawberries in frosty snow" .

Here are a few photos from around the Park from Kim and Wendy (thanks!) : A Pileated Woodpecker has been leaving a real impression.

Not much is happening here. Movie night was last night, not sure how many attended. I hear it was a National Geographic film.

The potholes are coming back.

The water was off in Helios last night at around midnight.  Not sure why as I didn't get an email but then, no one was probably awake that late around here.  :-D

( waving at all the people in Florida and Texas )

NINE DAYS until Christmas...

I will leave you with a photo of some Amish Christmas lights. (Take offense if you wish... I have an Amish friend and he would find it hilarious.)

I am NOT saying 'Happy Holidays'... it's CHRISTMAS.

Tuesday

Yes, I know, there has been no blog for a few weeks... I've been busy but I do have a lot of photos and stuff to put in the next blog... which should be this week.

Not many people are here... there aren't any events... nothing has happened... ho hum.

Go Christmas shopping.
